Biography
How did Gateways prepare you for your future?
Gateways provided an amazing opportunity for me to get a snapshot at a rigorous medical school curriculum that differed from the undergraduate learning experience. Although my time at Gateway’s was during the end of the COVID peak, I believe that being at Gateway’s prepared me for the challenges that medical school presents. Specifically, it allowed me to practice my time-management skills and gave me an opportunity to figure out my learning methods while being alongside medical students. The social community at Gateways during my program was fantastic and helped elevate my experience at Brown, both academically and socially. Having a small group that was close-knit allowed us to work together and grow with each other academically, rather than settle for a competitive nature.
What advice do you have for current/future Gateways Master of Medical Sciences students?
My biggest advice for current and future Gateway’s students is to live in the moment. Having an opportunity to study at Brown University and have access to their faculty along with the Gateway’s faculty is a tremendous opportunity. I believe it is important to take in your accomplishments and really use your time at Gateway’s to set goals and aspirations, while also network and enjoy your time in Providence/Brown. It is important to study hard and do your best, but to not get lost in the weeds of getting the best grade, but rather learn and grow from every opportunity presented to you. Take advantage of the capstone project, the bonding activities within the class, the office hours/group study sessions!
Any other comments?
I think Gateway’s is a great program for students needing a step into the door of premed/med life and having access to various resources including the fabulous faculty.
