Biography
How did Gateways prepare you for your future?
Gateways provided me with a solid understanding of the scientific and humanistic foundations of medicine. The program was cohesive and individualized, providing me with a better understanding of what I hope to achieve during my career as a physician-scientist. Having experience with anatomy, the first-year curriculum, and research into social determinants of health through the program gave me the confidence and tools to excel in medical school thus far. The support from the advisors was invaluable during the application process, and the sense of community fostered with faculty, peers, and the greater campus community is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.
What advice do you have for current/future Gateways Master of Medical Sciences students?
My advice is to constantly review the material, engage during TBL sessions, ask professors questions, meet with advisors, and find a good study group! One of my favorite memories from Gateways is discussing concepts with my friends at the library and learning from others!
Any other comments?
The path to becoming a physician is definitely a marathon, but having a support system like that at Gateways makes the journey much easier.
